Field Management/Maintenance

 

 

The following provides general guidelines and responsibilities for maintenance of the baseball fields at WCWAA.
 
Infield:

Fields will be drug by the Field Maintenance Manager Wayne Huwe. Coaches are responsible for the following:
 
Practice days
  • Practice days - The last team on the field for that day is responsible for pulling the bases, and putting them in the dugout.
  • All teams are responsible for removing all trash from their dugout, the stands, the field, and batting cage area.
  • The last team on the field for that day is responsible for raking the batter’s box area, raking any high spots around the bases, and for raking the home to 1st, and 3rd to home baselines on F5 and F6.
     
  • NOTE: When raking these baselines, make sure raking direction is always away from the grass. Never rake dirt into the grass line.  

Game days –
  • Home team (first game of the day) prepares the field. Home team sets up the scoreboard and if lights are required insures the timer is set for the game.
  • Visiting team (last game of the day) is responsible for closing the field. Visiting team pulls the bases and puts them in the dugout. Visiting team puts up all equipment including the scoreboard controller, turns off scoreboard and lights.
  • All teams are responsible for removing all trash from their dugout, the stands, the field, and batting cage area.
  • The last team on the field for that day is responsible for raking the batter’s box area, raking any high spots around the bases, and for raking the home to 1st, and 3rd to home baselines on F5 and F6.
    NOTE: When raking these baselines, make sure raking direction is always away from the grass. Never rake dirt into the grass line.
 
 
Dugouts
 Clean all equipment, clothes, water bottles, and trash from dugout at the end of each practice or game.
 
 
Lights
 Lights for the fields are on timers. At no time should Managers go into electrical service boxes. Make sure the timer is properly set before your game/practice. If they shutoff, they will require 15-20 minutes to cool off before they will turn back on. On game days, Home team is responsible for setting light timers.
Timer locations are as follows: 
Tball 1 There is one major light directed at this field. The switch is located at the rear of the 3rd base dugout of Field 1.
Field 1 One is inside the storage closet at the end of the concession stand. The other is on the rear of the 3rd base dugout of Field 1.
Field 2 The timer is located on the electrical box at the end of the concession stand.
Field 4 The timer is located on the electrical control boxes near F4 and the football field.
Field 5 The timer is located on the electrical service boxes behind F5 scoreboard.
Field 6 The timer is located on the electrical service boxes behind F5 scoreboard.
Field 7 The timer is located on the electrical service boxes between F7 and F8.
Field 8 The timer is located on the electrical service boxes between F7 and F8.
 
Make sure lights are turned off by the last team on the field. On game days, visiting team is responsible for shutting off lights.
 
Scoreboards:
 
  • Home team is responsible for setting up the control box and turning on the scoreboard.
  • Control boxes for the lower complex will be kept in the F5 storage, and in the equipment boxes for the upper complex fields.
  • IMPORTANT: The control box must be plugged in before powering up the scoreboard, and must be unplugged before powering off the scoreboard.
  • Power for the scoreboards is located as follows:
 
Field 1 Circuit breaker on light pole located in left field.
Field 2 Inside light timer box for F2.
Field 5 Inside the lights timer box for F5.
Field 6 Inside the lights timer box for F6.
Field 7 Inside the lights timer box for F7.
Field 8 Inside the lights timer box for F8.
 
  • Visiting team is responsible for turning off the scoreboard, and replacing control box in the shed.
 Any and all maintenance to the scoreboards, and control boxes shall be done by the maintenance team only.
 
  
Field Vehicles
 
The field vehicles are intended for field maintenance use only. ONLY authorized individuals are to use these vehicles at any time. If you have not been authorized to drive one of these vehicles by the Baseball Board President, or Field Maintenance Manager, you are not to operate them at any time.
